Living the sacraments

When attending Mass or receiving Communion is not possible, you can still receive Jesus in spiritual Communion. You can pray, for example, with the words of the 17th century Saint Alphonsus Liguori: "My Jesus, I believe you are really present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love you more than anything in the world, and I hunger to receive you. But since I cannot receive Communion at this moment, feed my soul at least spiritually. I unite myself to you now as I do when I actually receive you." And Jesus will unite himself to you!

In your (relatively small) suffering for not being able to receive actual Communion, you can unite yourself with Jesus’ great suffering when he offered his life on the Cross – and realised the gift to you of his body and blood in the Eucharist.

Pray to Jesus: “I believe you are present in the Eucharist. I desire to receive you spiritually in my heart. Help me to always remain close to you”.
